North Cache Ranch Rodeo
In Honour of Samantha(Sam) SHaw Guichon
August 29-30th, 2026
This year the rodeo is in memory of Samantha Shaw Guichon. Sam was born and raised on a ranch in the Peace Country.
From a young age, she developed a deep passion for the ranching lifestyle. This passion became the driving force behind every decision she made, with a clear goal of continuing to raise cattle, train horses and cattle dogs, and one day raise a family rooted in this lifestyle.
She had a natural gift with animals, supported by years of experience in horsemanship and stockmanship clinics. Her calm presence and quiet confidence were evident in the way animals trusted and responded to her. Sam really enjoyed her time spend the in the BC Peace, bringing the Kruse Ranch back to life.
She genuinely loved the country and community of Wonowon. Last year, Sam attended the North Cache Ranch Rodeo, an experience that left a lasting impression.
She returned home eager to improve her roping skills and was determined to put together a team to compete at this year’s event.
North Cache Ranch Rodeo Dates:
August 29th - Registration is at 8:00-9:20 am. ( Waivers must be filled out Sat morning to ride.)
August 29th at 10 a.m. Rodeo Performance (grand entry at 9:50am)
August 30st at 9:00 a.m. Church Service
August 30st at 11 a.m. Rodeo Performance (grand entry at 10:50am)
Gate Admission: $5 an Kid/ $10 an adult / $25 a Family per day
Concession on site, serving from Saturday breakfast to Sunday supper.
Camping is welcomed and available. Limited Pen space, for ranch team horses. Lots of space for electric fences. Water is available all around.

Top Hand Award - A top hand sits a horse well, has excellent horsemanship skills, roping, stockman ship, and works well with a team in accomplishing tasks handling cattle. While being versatile in all events, a top hand is knowledgeable in handling cattle in a positive and safe manner. A top hand has the ability to stay calm and quite while handling cattle in all situations. Voted on by the teams on Sunday,
There will be a Top Hand Man & Top Hand Lady.

Kid's Events:
8-12 Calf Roping (bring your own rope), rope has to be on calf.

- Entry fee has to be paid by e-transfer to complete and hold your spot July 2th. Teams will be accepted according to money being in. All e-transfers can be sent to northcacheranchrodeo@gmail.com.
- Provide your team name and team members names. Team caption name and number. Also providing a bit of history about your ranch or team members (a brief history and any personal interest stories from your ranch). To be used by the announcer during the event.
- If your team can not make it, you are responsible to find a replacement team to take your spot. Entry Fees will not be refunded under normal circumstances. In the case of emergency it will be taken up to the committee.
- We look forward to having you come and participate in the North Cache Ranch Rodeo 2024.
Entry fee: $400 a team, to be paid on sign up.

Open Ranch Bronc:
There will be Open and Novice Broncs.

SECTION 1: EVENT RULES AND REGULATIONS
All Events are a 4-member team event, no 5th person. Same horse used for every event, switch out based on Judges discretion.
Wild Cow Milking:
1. Four (4) person event.
2. Three (3) minute time limit.
3. Cow must be caught by head loop; one front foot allowed. Belly loops are not
accepted.
4. One to two ropers per team is allowed, it is up to each team as they prefer.
5. Only 2 teams at a time.
6. All riders must be behind the starting line; all other team members go to stop
designated by the judges.
7. When the horn sounds, only header can cross the line.
8. Once the header has caught the cow, the tailer, milker and mugger can leave
the designated area and come into play.
9. The roper must be holding the cow when the cow is being milked (Roper
must remain on horse and be dallied up).
10. Milker must then run the bottle of milk by foot over to the judges.
11. DO NOT DUMP YOUR MILK UNTIL ROPE(S) ARE OFF.
12. Milker must fill the bottle with enough milk that it runs out for the judge to
pour himself.
13. Time is called when ropes are off.
14. The team with the fastest time wins the event for that performance.
15. All penalties and DQs will be given at judge’s discretion.
BRANDING:
1. Four (4) person event.
2. 3 Teams at a time.
3. 2.5 min time limit or 2 calves roped (can NOT call time on one calf – if one is
only roped time will be 2.5 mins on one calf).
4. Time starts when roper on his horse leaves the circle.
5. Team members can not touch the rope till whole calf crosses into the circle.
6. Branding iron can not leave pot until ALL rope(s) are off.
7. Ropers may ride in and out in a respectful manner – no high trotting, do not
scatter herd.
8. Once branded with two brands, calf can be let up and back in the herd.
9. Brand must remain in the same location as the first brand.
10. A lost rope is a disqualification.
11. Time ends when last calf leaves the circle.
12. Can dally on high hock – can NOT DRAG calf on high hock.
13. 30 second penalty for team member helping outside the circle.
14. A 30 second penalty will be given if a single heel catch is made.
15. All penalties and DQs will be given at judge’s discretion.
PENNING:
1. Four (4) person event.
2. 2.5 min time limit with at least one animal penned.
3. Time starts when you cross the line.
4. Announcer will give number when team crosses the line.
5. Time stops when 1 rider steps his horse to the line at pen opening and calls
time. In order to call time, all members must be across the starting line to the
starting side.
6. No trash.
7. Herd must be worked in a relaxed and controlled manner
8. All penalties and DQs will be given at judge’s discretion.
TEAM DOCTORING:
1. Four (4) person event.
2. 2.5 mins time limit to have the head loop on.
3. Total of 3 mins time limit to have it laid down and ropes set on both front and
hind legs and time called.
4. Time starts when you cross the line.
5. No trash allowed till after head loop is on your animal.
6. Animal must be headed before it’s heeled.
7. Once the animal has been headed and heeled, other team members remove
the head loop and ropes the front legs and ensures that the back legs are both
roped.
8. When heading, legal catches consists of horns, half head, neck, and one front
leg. Belly catches are not accepted.
9. Third team member marks the steer as treated with a colour marker.
10. Fourth team member may hold horse or assist.
11. Time is called when all members are back in their saddles and the steer still
has 2 front legs and 2 hind legs in the loop.
12. No major herd disruptions or scattering of the herd allowed. Judges can give
a time penalty or DQ at their discretion.
13. All penalties and DQs will be given at judge’s discretion.
TRAILER LOADING:
1.A 4-person team must go into the herd of numbered yearlings, extracting 1-3 of
their announced number, moving and loading them at the same time and all 4 of
the horses into the trailer AND getting riders into the truck with all doors shut.
Free standing panels will be set up for loading. The announcer will call a number
as the team crosses the foul line.
2. Can load 1, 2, or all 3 of your announced number, the number of animals
loaded of your announced number will determine the top places (those with the
most loaded will place higher than those with less).
3. No Trash
4. The time is started then the first rider crosses the foul line and is stopped when
the animal or animals have been loaded in the 1st compartment, and all 4 horses
are loaded, the trailer door is closed AND all 4-riders are in the truck with all
doors closed.
5. Teams may change to another yearling of your announced number if desired.
6. 2.5 minute time limit.
7. All penalties and DQs will be given at the judge’s discretion.
STRAY GATHERING:
1. Four (4) man team, all members on horseback.
2. 3.5 min time limit, no loop limit.
3. Two steers will be turned out at the far end of the arena
4. Time starts when team crosses starting point at the opposite end of the arena.
5. Each team will be required to head each steer (legal head catch), one front leg
allowed in the head loop.
6. Can bulldog, don’t have to heel.
7. Both cattle must be tied down by three legs and remain tied for six seconds
after both steers are free from the touch of any team member and time called.
8. Time is called when steers are tied, and all ropes removed from steers.
Contestants must call for time. Both steers must stay tied
for 6 seconds after time is called. Failure for either one or both steers to stay tied
will result in a NO TIME.
9. All penalties and DQs will be given at the judge’s discretion.
PAIRING:
1. Four (4) person event.
2. 3.5 min time limit, with as many pairs as you can.
3. Time starts when first rider crosses the line.
4. Announcer will call the number of pair when you cross the line, pairing must be
one in numerical order.
5. Cow + Calf must be paired up before crossing the line.
6. Trash must be removed before calling time.
7. Time is called when team members and the pairs sorted out are on the other
side of the line. Time must be called.
8. Herd must be worked in a relaxed and controlled manner.
9. All penalties and DQs will be given at the judge’s discretion.
OPEN RANCH BRONCS:
1. “Ride as you can” for 8 seconds.
2. A standard working saddle must be used.
3. No Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) or Canadian
Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA) rigging allowed.
4. Horse has to be saddled as he would for everyday use. With exception to
the hobble between front and back cinch, may be undone. Left to the rider’s
preference.
5. A regular bucking horse halter with one rein must be used. Rein shall be
provided by the bronc rider.
6. No hobbling of one or both stirrups.
7. Points will be awarded for the difficulty of the horse and also for the degree
of the aggressiveness, control, and exposure demonstrated by the rider. 50% of
the score goes to the rider and 50% to the horse.
8. A re-ride may be awarded at the judge’s discretion.
9. The Bronc rider with the highest score wins the event for that performance.
Thirty second warning will be given in each event.
Legal Catches –
When heading, legal catches consists of horns, half head, neck, and one front leg.
Belly catches and single front leg are not accepted. Dallying on Belly catch, and single front leg are an automatic DQ. Applies to all events.
